Here are two early incursions into ‘playing’ with new materials. In the one on the left we created our own devore fabric by burn-out and ample use of both The Guardian newspaper for b/w and The Financial Times for the pink version! In the one on the right we literally painted on the pinstripe! They sold like hot cakes at Liberty on the international designer floor.
By having our own workshop we were able to transform original fabric almost beyond recognition. We had access to embroiderers who executed freehand from our sketches. Dressmakers diligently and precisely stitched metres of fabric with evenly spaced lines of tucking, we hand placed prints, we carefully created ragged edges in ombre silk chiffon and indulged every possible impossible idea …because we could.
